Keepy

How can I help?

The questions people ask me most. Still stuck? Write to me: a real person reads every e-mail.

Getting started

What does Keepy do?

Keepy keeps a list of the food you have at home and when each thing reaches its date. You add food by scanning its barcode and pointing the camera at the date, or by typing it. Today then shows what to eat first, and a short daily reminder nudges you at the hour you choose.

Do I need an account?

No. Keepy works without one, and your kitchen stays on your phone. You only sign in (with Apple or Google) if you want your list on more than one phone, or safe when you change phones.

Which phones does Keepy work on?

Any iPhone with iOS 18 or later. There's no iPad, Mac or Android version for now.

Can I use Keepy in Bahasa Indonesia?

Yes. Keepy speaks English and Bahasa Indonesia and follows your iPhone's language. To use a different language for Keepy only, open the iPhone's Settings › Apps › Keepy › Language.

Does Keepy work offline?

Mostly, yes. Your list, typing items, reading dates and the reminders all work without a connection. Looking up a barcode I haven't seen on your phone before, the AI pack read and sync need the internet.

Is there a quick tour of the app?

Yes: Settings › Help › Guides walks through Today, Items, Scan and the item page in a minute each.

Scanning

How many scans do I get for free?

50 scans every 30 days, and up to 10 of those can be AI pack scans. Typing an item never counts, and there's no limit on how many items you keep.

The 30 days start with your first scan. When they're up, all 50 come back. The bar on the scan screen shows how many you have left and when they fill up again.

What counts as a scan?

A scan counts when it finds a product: a barcode I recognise, or a pack the AI reads for you. A barcode I can't find doesn't count. Reading the date never counts, because it happens on your phone.

Keepy doesn't know my product

Then you have two options. Snap the front of the pack and, if you allow it, an AI reads the name, brand and size for you. Or type the name yourself, which is always free. Either way, check the name before you save it.

How do I add food without a pack, like eggs or vegetables?

On the scan screen, take a photo of the food itself and, if you allow it, the AI works out what it is. Or pick it from the quick list (eggs, fruit, vegetables, bread and more), or type the name. When there's no printed date, I suggest one for that kind of food and label it as an estimate.

Keepy can't read the date on my pack

Hold the phone steady, fill the frame with the date and find some light. The flashlight button helps with shiny or dark packs. If it still won't read, tap Type the date. That's free and takes a second.

Can I add food from photos I already took?

Yes. On the scan screen, choose From photos and pick the pictures of the pack. I read the barcode and the date on your phone. The other photos in your library are never read or sent.

The camera doesn't open

Keepy needs your OK to use the camera. Open the iPhone's Settings › Apps › Keepy and turn on Camera, then come back.

A product name or date is wrong

Open the item and tap the name or the date to change it. A name the AI read is marked "Read by AI · check it" until you save it, so you know to look twice.

Reminders

How do reminders work?

Once a day, at the hour you pick, I send a short summary of what's close to its date. Nothing at night: quiet hours are 21:00 to 07:00 unless you change them. Everything is in Settings › Reminders & notifications.

Reminders are made on your phone, so they arrive even when you're offline.

I'm not getting reminders
  1. Open the iPhone's Settings › Notifications › Keepy and make sure Allow Notifications is on.
  2. Check that a Focus (like Sleep or Do Not Disturb) isn't silencing Keepy at that hour.
  3. In Keepy, open Settings › Reminders & notifications and check the time and the quiet hours.

On a day when nothing is close to its date, I stay quiet. To get a one-line "all good" on those days too, turn on Send it on quiet days too.

Can I get a reminder for one particular item?

Yes, with Keepy Pro: a heads-up for each item, a day or two before its date, and you choose how early for each category. On the free plan, the daily summary covers everything.

Your kitchen

Can I trust the estimated dates?

They're estimates, and I label them that way. They're a starting point for food without a printed date. The date on the pack, and how the food looks and smells, always come first.

Can Keepy tell me if food is still safe to eat?

No. Keepy helps you remember dates. It can't see your food, so it can't judge whether it's safe. When in doubt, check the pack and the food itself.

Can I change the places and categories?

Everyone gets 12 built-in places, like Fridge, Freezer, Pantry and Fruit basket. With Keepy Pro you can add your own places and categories in Settings › Storage places and Settings › Categories.

What's the monthly recap?

At the start of each month, a few pages about the month before: what you ate in time, what slipped through, the things you saved on their last day, and how it compares with before. You can share it as a picture. It's free for everyone.

How do I add the widget to my Home Screen?

Touch and hold an empty part of your Home Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget, search for Keepy and choose the small or medium size. Widgets come with Keepy Pro; on the free plan the widget shows what Pro adds.

Can I share my kitchen with my household?

Not yet: shared kitchens are coming soon. For now, you can sign in with the same account on your own phones to keep one list.

The AI pack read

What goes to the AI?

Only a photo of the front of the pack, and only when I don't know the product from its barcode. I ask you before the first one goes. A third-party AI service in the United States reads the name, brand and size, through Keepy's server, and I show the result as "Read by AI · check it" until you save it.

No name, account or location goes with the photo. Expiry dates are never sent to an AI: they're read on your phone.

How do I turn the AI read off?

Settings › Scanning › AI pack read. With it off, no pack photo leaves your phone, and barcodes and typing keep working.

What is "Share pack-front photos"?

A separate choice, off unless you turn it on. When it's on, Keepy keeps the pack photos the AI reads, so new products get known to everyone faster. Never with your name or location. Turn it off and the photos your phone shared are deleted from my server.

Sync and account

Why would I sign in?

To keep the same kitchen on more than one phone, and so your items move with you when you change phones. Sign in at the top of Settings with Apple or Google. It's free. I don't store your e-mail address or name.

I got a new iPhone. How do I move my kitchen?

If you were signed in, sign in with the same account on the new phone and your items come back. If you weren't, sign in on the old phone first, let it sync (Settings › Data & privacy shows when it last synced), then sign in on the new one.

How do I delete my account?

Settings › Delete account, at the bottom of Settings when you're signed in. It deletes your account, your sign-in, your synced kitchen and your scan history from my server, and clears this phone. It can't be undone.

Deleting your account doesn't cancel Keepy Pro. See How do I cancel?

Your data

Where is my kitchen stored?

On your phone. Nothing about your items is sent to my server unless you sign in to sync. The privacy policy has every detail.

Does Keepy send usage data?

Only if "Send anonymous usage data" is on: what you tap and choose in the app, as codes and counts, with a random id that isn't linked to your account. Never your items, product names, photos, prices or anything you type. In the EU, the UK and Switzerland it starts off; elsewhere it starts on, and I show you the switch before anything is sent. Turn it off any time in Settings › Data & privacy.

How do I export my data?

Settings › Data & privacy › Export to CSV. You get your items and their history as two files that open in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets.

How do I delete my data?

On the phone: Settings › Data & privacy › Delete all data.

On my server: if you're signed in, Settings › Delete account. If you're not, Settings › Data & privacy › Delete this phone's data from Keepy's server. If neither works for you, e-mail hello@getkeepy.app and I'll delete it.

Deleting the app or your data doesn't cancel a Keepy Pro subscription.

Keepy Pro

What does Pro give me?
  • No scan limit: barcodes and AI scans, any day.
  • A heads-up for each item, a day or two before its date, set per category.
  • Home-screen widgets that show what to eat first.
  • Your own places and categories.

Typing items, the daily summary, the full monthly recap, the calendar and sync stay free for everyone.

How much is Pro, and is there a free trial?

In the US it's $2.99 a month or $19.99 a year. The yearly plan starts with 7 days free. The App Store shows the price for your country before you pay.

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple. In Keepy, open Settings › Keepy Pro › Manage subscription. Or on your iPhone, open Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Keepy Pro and tap Cancel. Do it at least 24 hours before the next renewal, or before the free trial ends, so you aren't charged. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for.

What happens when Pro ends?

Nothing is deleted. Your own places and categories keep working, but you can't add new ones. The heads-ups for each item stop, the widget shows what Pro adds, and the free scan limit comes back.

I bought Pro but it isn't on

In Keepy, open Settings › Keepy Pro and tap Restore purchases, using the same Apple Account you paid with. Still off? E-mail me with the date of the purchase.

Can I share Pro with my family?

Not at the moment: Keepy Pro isn't part of Family Sharing.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds go through Apple, not me. Ask at reportaproblem.apple.com.
